You might have guessed it, also this year we have a Finnish joker for you: Siinai, a four-piece consisting of namesakes Risto and Markus Joensuu, infamous for a past with the mighty Joensuu 1685 together with Matti Ahopelto and Saku Kämäräinen are what we dare to call the most exciting Finnish export product around. And products are what these guys are really into these days. Following the anthemic debut album Olympic Games and a spectacular cooperation with Wolf Parade singer Spencer Krug alias Moonface their new album is called Supermarket and it is refining the Finns’ excessively hypnotic, yet always conceptual instrumental music. Thereby Siinai remains one of the few bands successfully relating an intrinsically retrospective sound between Kraut and Minimal Music to signs of our times. Supermarket sounds like high frequency trading, delusional efficiency, self-optimization, and psychotropics. Escapism against alienation. Pulsating rhythms blurring the lines between Kafka, Kmart, Kraftwerk and ketamine.
