Chris Imler, elsewhere in this program entitled the «Don Corleone of Berlin rock’n’roll», is really some kind of godfather of Berlin subculture. His Adolphe-Menjou-style mustache smoothened the way for early stache-acceptance among urban tribes between Oranien- and Torstraße, his wild combinations of track and best suit are legendary and in general Chris Imler is always where it’s happening, also in his 50ies. And things are happening quite a bit on his solo debut which Chris kept us waiting for for decades. Decades which he spent as an energy working on drums, for those who were happening then, Peaches, Maximilian Hecker, Puppetmastaz, and more recently Oum Shatt who he will also perform with at this year’s festival. Yes, we do trust his ADHD to master even two shows in one day. Speaking of hyperkinesis, the album which suddenly urged the drummer to the front of the stage is called «Nervös». A nervous masterpiece, an album like three bottles of Club Mate, shaky, twitchy and antsy. In German and English, at eye level with Suicide and DAF, and that’s not really that easy, is it? An assembly line of drum-machines, synthesizers and vocoders producing no-wave-nomad-psych-pop peppered with slogans between sense and non-sense. Onwards, Chris! Nervous is the new cool.
