Klaus Johann Grobe

2015

Exberliner presents: Klaus Johann Grobe.

For those who like their Krautrock with a side of not-so-cheesy Swiss, the duo of Sevi Landolt (keyboards/vocals) and former Berliner Dani Bachmann (drums/vocals), who call themselves Klaus Johann Grobe. Having long ago abandoned their trip-hop background, Klaus Johann Grobe manage to reach deeply into the garage roots of Krautrock (a genre they claim to not be so impressed by, if you can believe it), sounding, with their stripped-down motor rhythms over insistent, vintage organ lines, as Brooklyn Vegan put it, as «if Can had jammed with Os Mutantes… and Stereolab owned the only bootleg.» Few bands today can combine such a panoply of historical influences and come up sounding oh-so-fresh. – Text: David Strauss
