Maybe it’s the romantic nostalgia of a deserted post-industrial backdrop which had already led singers of bands such as The Sundays, Lush or the Cocteau Twins to put a like-minded laconic yet dreamy energy in their voices as Nadine Finsterbusch does. Nadine & The Prussians are from the German Ruhr area and to start off with an objective opinion: They are fantastic. They’ve got heartbreaking melodies and Nadine’s voice lets you escape from the treadmill of everyday life in a mere instant. Together with guitarist Bruno Bauch she creates a fine soundtrack to the bus ride to school, to your boring day job, the wistful return from summer holidays. The good old everything-sucks-but-I’ll-forget-about-it-for-a-moment-feeling, life-saving reverie, melancholic/euphoric daydreaming. Their music is a fountain of references: British 90ies dream-pop meets an energetic American Riot Grrrl sound, all with ease instead of mannered historicism. With the help of Ramin Bijan from German band Die Türen and Norman Nitzsche (Whitest Boy Alive, Tocotronic, Masha Qrella) Nadine & The Prussians have produced a stunning first EP. Nadine herself has just moved to Berlin and live on stage we expect the duo to grow into a veritable band.
