Genius and geniality must be closely related, at least for Alexander Winkelmann who faces the ordinary citizen with a whimsicle smile, elegant expression, courtesy and modesty. But then Winkelmann’s, eum, oeuvre does not only disclose a good load of genius, it’s also charged with one or another gigabyte of madness. We are not even sure under which profession he operates these days: Artist, certainly. Designer, too. Performer, very much. And musician of course, sort of. Only in 2013 A. Winkelmann’s musical output spans over three albums titled «Das neue Album», «Das neuere Album» und «Das neuste Album» – an absurdly humorous LoFi-tryptichon somewhere between Kurt Schwitters, Animal Collective and Hamburg’s Goldene Zitronen. Beyond our insufficient introduction we do recommend a few absent days to dive into Winkelmann’s cosmos: His digital branch www.alexanderwinkelmann.de offers practical, theoretical and commentarial material around creator and creation along with the precious link to another bubbly corner, which is Alexander’s youtube profile.
