Matt Mondanile, a composer, lyricist, producer, guitarist, singer, and the protagonist of the project, writes songs for early summer – songs for falling asleep, waking up, eating breakfast, and riding bikes. Songs for falling in love, for breaking up, and for picking up the kids at daycare. Each musical creation is a tender little gem – nonchalant, carefree, and simultaneously profound (ahem, high art!). Meanwhile, this Pitchfork darling has transformed the lo-fi sound that defined his early releases into rich, detailed soundscapes. The songs are layer cakes of faded guitars, relaxed drums, and vocals whose source you’d like to invite for a soda in the park. Evidence of that can be found, for one, in the countless collaborations Mondanile has been involved in over the past years: he’s a founding member of the neo-college band Real Estate (duh), he once played live at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and he’s worked with Daniel Lopatin aka Oneohtrix Point Never, Panda Bear, and Peaking Lights’s Al Carlson, who mixed the masterpiece The Flower Lane. Now, Ducktails live at Torstraßen Festival 2017. The pleasure is all ours.
