Jack Chosef

2015

Shameless/Limitless presents: Jack Chosef.

Chill wave! Is chill wave still around? Is chill wave back? Is there a chill wave revival? What have we missed? Mr. Jack Chosef dares to rehabilitate the term once created by blogger Charles of Hipster Runoff, and declare: Yes, it’s 2015 and I am into chillwave. Yet the wave that the man in a bathrope seems to have ridden just a moment ago is much less chilly than its label suggests. Once a drummer for Canadian über-crooner Sean Nicholas Savage, Jack Chosef is now focussed on his solo work. His first EP is onomatopoeically called Yeehai andproduced with the help of first-folk-then-techno musician Touchy Mob. It blends a bunch of oohoos with decelerated hip-hop-beats and reluctantly groovy baselines, which in sum sounds a bit like a ’90s computer game and would go well with a joyride through nocturnal Miami. At his live shows, Chosef adds a dash of balearic trance into the mix while jumping up and down behind his devices, spreading love and happiness like it’s Ibiza 1995.
