MicahTron & Dreea

2015

Expatriarch presents:

With ten years since the last Missy Elliott album and no new one in sight, it’s probably time to shift our hopes elsewhere. Hailing from San Francisco, rapper MicahTron first performed in Berlin last summer, and soon after that decided to set up camp here. Since then, she’s continued to play shows, whether in Austria or Australia, while simultaneously working on her first official release. Micah has been slowly building momentum, dropping an album’s worth of streaming tracks spread over three years’ time and winning new fans with every performance. She’s upfront about her lesbian identity, but she’s never marginalized herself, earning respect from all hip-hop fans who value talent and authenticity over bling. Because of this, she maintains a strong connection with a queer fanbase—playing Pride festivals and sharing stages with Cakes Da Killa and Le1f—as well as a wider audience, opening for veteran artists like Lil Kim, Eve and Salt-N-Pepa’s DJ Spinderella. For her current live set, she is working with Dreea as her DJ partner in crime. (Text: Joey Hansom)
