Ramsha Shakeel & Gebrüder Teichmann

2017

In 2015, the Gebrüder Teichmann founded the intercultural electronic label NOLAND. It all started with the album Karachi Files, which was recorded with 12 musicians at a “soundcamp” in Pakistan. In this project, which was organized by the Gebrüder Teichmann together with the Goethe Institute, musicians from Pakistan and Europe spent two weeks in Karachi living and making music together. Among the participants were Ramsha Shakeel and Alien Panda Jury.

Ramsha Shakeel is a Pakistani experimental guitarist and ambient musician now living in Toronto. Ramsha, who has developed a technique of eliciting novel sound worlds out of her guitar using violin bows, effects, and feedback, plays a central role in Karachi Files. In the context of Torstraßen Festival, Ramsha and the Gebrüder Teichmann will present their most recent collaboration, which moves between ambient soundscapes, complex rhythms, and modular live electronics.
