Welcome to the now. The Townhouses is the solo project of Melbourne artist, Leigh Hannah. After a string of ambient/instrumental EPs, Leigh released his debut album ‘Islands’, and follow-up EP, ‘Mono no Aware’, to blog and radio praise from all around the world. Islands, derived from some 60-something demos, is largely the result of Leigh’s interest in so-called ethnomusicology. Influenced by gamelan, African, electronic, experimental and ambient music Leigh’s sound results in a sophisticated collages of different tonalities and polyphonic textures, balanced out by lyric-less lo-fi vocals.
