Australia: V goes to art school, draws, makes zines, gives tattoos, discovers The Slits, and starts a band. London: V hates the city and moves to Berlin. Berlin: V spends days at Kunsthaus Tacheles, becomes entrenched in the punk and squatter scene, organizes concerts, and starts not one, not two, but three bands/projects/identities? V is, along with Transylvania and Holysix, yet another incarnation of this very special Australian. The sound is classified by V herself as “black pop”—indeed, we find ourselves in sinister, voice-blessed synthesizer and stoic beat territory. “100 Black Holes”, “Kill Me Now” or “No Return”, a small selection of, eh, inspirational song titles, are suicidal dark wave, and sharp, shredding industrial pop shaking the sweaty palms of the 1980s. In the process, V has earned every bit of icon status. V’s gender-neutral appearance is combined with informed theory and praxis in all things DIY, anti-capitalism, and lifestyle. Let yourself be affected, or infected, by V’s smörgåsborg of dark energies and uniquely (even for the underground) uncompromising approach.
