The latest product of Berlin-based music enterprise staatsakt is from Berlin, sings about Berlin and is even called something with Berlin, namely Isolation Berlin. Nevertheless the band’s potential as poster boys for the next city marketing campaign is limited. It is a different Berlin that Tobi, Max, David and Simeon place their heartbroken songs in – grey and melancholic, isolated, alienated, a Berlin from the past. Referencing snotty German pop music from the 70s and 80s such as Rio Reiser, Udo Lindenberg or Fehlfarben, Isolation Berlin step back to a time when it wasn’t the Apple Store that brought kids to Bahnhof Zoo. Sounds nostalgic? Yes! If you ever wondered what brought Bowie to this city – these guys have answers.
