Klitclique

2018

Austria, 2018: the Burschenschaft Hysteria, a feminist answer to male fraternity culture, seizes power; male suffrage is abolished; Stefanie Sargnagel wins the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize; Stefanie Sargnagel becomes chancellor; the golden matriarchy begins, and Klitclique are at the top of the charts. Fingers crossed! With their performance project Klitclique, the artists G-UDIT and $CHWANGER join a radical countermovement to the (political) culture of Austria, or of Germany, or Europe, or… you name it, all of which are quickly drifting further into a dark yesterday. Despite their well-deserved Parental Advisory sticker, the duo’s “slacker trap” strikes a remarkable balance between necessary vulgarity and clever analysis. It is stylistically dominated by a double-dealing, relentless shunning of the status quo in which not even your filter bubbles are spared. In this world, Mommy (not Daddy!) is called upon to finance the expensive (but socially crucial!) art-world work; wafts of Candida yeast are directed towards sad cloud-rap boys; and so the women-must-be-dressed-in-pornos-and-talk-about-anything-other-than-men feminists are unmasked. The duo first appeared on German stages opening for the Viennese author Stefanie Sargnagel. Their debut album is due out on the label Schlecht-im-Bett (Bad in Bed) Records.
