Tickets für Samstag sind an allen Locations jeweils ab einer Stunde vor der ersten Show erhältlich. Ein Ticket kostet 20€ und gilt in allen Locations. Online-Tickets müssen am Infostand am ACUD gegen Festivalbändchen eingetauscht werden. Der Infostand öffnet um 13 Uhr.

Tickets für Sonntag gibt es online und am Samstag und Sonntag an den Kassen der Volksbühne. Der Eintritt zum Independent Label Market ist gratis.

Tickets for Saturday are available at all our locations starting 1 hour prior to the first show at the venue. One ticket costs 20€ and is valid for all locations. Online tickets must be exchanged for wristbands at the info stand at ACUD. The info stand opens at 1pm.

Tickets for Sunday are available online and at Volksbühne on both Saturday and Sunday. The Independent Label Market is free.

After the success of last year’s Torstraßen Festival label market, we’ve decided to come back bigger and better in 2018. This year’s edition sees us partnering with the London based Independent Label Market to bring you a day’s worth of digging into the hallowed halls of the iconic and historic Volksbühne Theater.

The market will be open from 12:00 – 18:00, in the Volksbühne foyers on several floors. Drinks, coffee, ice cream and a BBQ will be available throughout the day. Rarities and exclusives can be expected from several of the labels.

Forever Torstraßen Festival. Torstraßen Festival Forever. Wir drehen die 8 der achten Festivalausgabe um und formen daraus die Unendlichkeit.

8 Jahre. 18 Jahre? 80 Jahre? Wo geht es eigentlich hin mit diesem Festival, mit der Pop-Musik im Speziellen und mit uns im Allgemeinen? Klar, in die Zukunft. Aber wie sieht die aus? Und was machen wir daraus? Ist die Zukunft nicht längst gelenkt und entschieden, von posthumanen Mächten, von Märkten und Algorithmen kontrolliert und determiniert? End of History, Kapitalistischer Realismus, Leben im Loop, Spekulation statt Vision? Das Jetzt hat uns im Griff. Sad!

Forever also. Was früher richtig war kann heute nicht falsch sein? Marmeladenstulle, Kernfamilie, Haustür zu, sicher ist sicher? Really? Ist das wirklich schon alles? Angst vor Morgen, im Clinch mit dem Jetzt, also Reise ins Gestern? Nein. Wir hoffen da geht noch was mit dieser Zukunft. Versuchen wir also den großen Wurf, den Wurf über das Ziel hinaus, den Blick in die Unendlichkeit. Nähern wir uns der Zukunft aus anderer Perspektive. Auf der Suche nach Konkretem im Abstraktem. Auf der Suche nach Fantasie, vorstellbaren Strukturen und Überraschungen.

In diesem Sinne hören wir in diesem Jahr Musik, die von anderen Welten träumt. Von nahen Welten und von fernen Welten. Musik, die Zeiten überwindet, die Zeit auflöst, die spekuliert und riskiert, mit Ideen für das Hier, mit Ideen aus dem Woanders. Musik, die etwas will wie die von Klitclique. Musik, die Epochen überspannt wie die von King Ayisoba. Musik, die aus der Zukunft zu kommen scheint, wie die von Wilted Woman. Wir freuen uns auf Sean Nicholas Savage, der eine Idee von sich zelebriert. Auf Alex Cameron, der mit einer Idee von sich bricht. Auf Lido Pimienta, die sich gegen die Vergangenheit behauptet. Und auf Künstler*innen, die gemeinschaftlich Gegenentwürfe wagen wie AG Form, die ihre eigene Uhr zurückdrehen wie Kaukolampi und deren Zukunft die Gegenwart ist, wie Tianzhuo Chen. Auf Künstler*innen aus Berlin. Und auf Künstler*innen auf Finland, China, Italien, Australien, Ghana oder Argentinien.

Pop-Musik, und das ist das schöne an ihr, ist eine Momentaufnahme. Für die Ewigkeit ist sie eigentlich nicht gemacht. Und doch hat sie, wenn sie gut ist, so viel zu sagen zum Jetzt, zum Gleich und zum Für Immer. Also ist unser Forever eigentlich eine Frage. Eine Frage an die Musik. An uns. Und an Euch.

Forever Torstraßen Festival. Torstraßen Festival Forever. Tip the 8 (as in eighth festival edition) on its side, and voilà: infinity.

8 years. 18 years? 80 years? Where is this festival actually headed? Where is pop music in particular headed, and what about us in general? We’re headed for the future, of course. But what does that look like? And what will we make of it? Isn’t the future long-since masterminded and decided? Hasn’t it been determined and co-opted by post-human powers, by markets and algorithms? The end of history, capitalist realism, living in a loop, speculation over sober vision? The present moment controls us like puppets. So sad!

And then there’s forever. What used to be right can’t now be wrong, can it? Jelly sandwiches, nuclear families, front door locked—safe is safe, isn’t it? Is it really, though? We live in fear of tomorrow, and not even today feels right; time to take a U-turn towards yesterday, then? No. There’s got to be something for us in this future. Let’s play the long game, the game that extends past the goal—the game into infinity. Let’s approach the future from a different perspective—let’s search for the concrete in the abstract. For fantasy, imaginable structures, and surprises.

This year, in this spirit, we’ll hear music that dreams of other worlds. Nearby worlds and distant worlds. Music that transcends hours and minutes, that dissolves time, that speculates and takes risks, that has ideas about here and now, that has visions from another place. Music that wants the things the members of Klitclique want. Music, like King Ayisoba’s, that straddles epochs. Music that seems to come from the future, like Wilted Woman’s. We look forward to Sean Nicholas Savage, who revels in an idea of himself. Also to Alex Cameron, who departs from an idea of himself. To Lido Pimienta, who stands up to the past. And to artists like AG Form, who dare to propose collective alternatives, or like Kaukolampi, who turn back their own clocks, or like Tianzhuo Chen, who sees future in the present. We look forward to artists from Berlin. And to artists from Finland, China, Italy, Australia, Ghana, and Argentina.

The beautiful thing about pop music is that it’s a snapshot of a moment. It isn’t made for infinity. But when it’s good, it has something to say about now, about a couple hours down the line, about always. So forever, then, is actually a question—a question posed to the music. To ourselves. And to all of you.
